Alien (in space nobody can hear you scream) is a horror film/sci-fi film which I am very found of.
If you've ever seen Alien, then you'll know XO Gilbert Kane is the idiot who dies first, on account of putting his face right
next to the evil looking egg.
I chose to cosplay him over the rest of the Nostromo crew for the reason that, I too, would die from doing something stupid like that.

Kane is played by a young John Hurt and also appears in Spaceballs where he promptly dies, exclaiming "oh no, not again!" miserably as a dancing xenomorph
bursts from his chest. Again. This is also the only version of the scene youtube will let me embed since it has no age restriction.

Kane was born in Borehamwood, London, England - poor guy- and a star pupil at school.
However, he went to study medicine at university, and ended up becoming addicted to perscription medication.
It's not really specified what medication, but it can be assumed he was stealing it, since he landed in hospital with
a blood clot on the lungs for 107 days, and then was promptly expelled from university and not allowed to study to get a medical licence again.

After that, Kane attended a university in Suffolk, England, where he obtained a Masters in engineering and a pilot's license.
Following this, Kane was posted as XO aboard the hospital ship UKMS Outreach, although while there his addiction resurfaced.
He was relieved of his post, and though he was able to beat his addiction, he started drinking instead.
It seems like at some point he got a dual UK-US citizenship, whilst working for Weyland-Yutani, and served as captain and XO
on a handful of other ships before transferring to the Nostromo and dying horribly.

It's specifically noted that Kane was never really of captain material, lacking leadership skills entirely.
He seemed to be well liked by the crew, but when the arguments about pay started at the beginning of Alien
despite being the XO, the second in command, he says literially nothing. Kane- though his legal name was
Gilbert Ward Kane, also sometimes went by Thomas Kane as an alias.
